Parents Western Pleasure

Story & Photo by Tonya Ratliff-Garrison | Paint Horse Journal | July 2, 2011

Jennifer Cornett and her gelding Sip Of Cuervo beat a field of five parents to win the Parents Western Pleasure class at the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show.

It was a sweet sip of victory for Jennifer Cornett in Parents Western Pleasure.

Jennifer Cornett rode her 2002 sorrel overo gelding, Sip Of Cuervo, in the Parents Western Pleasure on July 2. Even though it was the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show and her daughter, Josey, was the one showing "Matty" in the Youth Walk-Trot Western Pleasure, Jennifer took the reins to compete against four other parents and win a Gist belt buckle and the title of champion.

Q: What made you enter the Parents Western Pleasure?

Jennifer: I had to do it. My daughter wouldn’t let me out of it.

Q: Although your daughter shows him, Sip Of Cuervo is actually your horse, right?

Jennifer: Yes.

Q: What do you call him at home?

Jennifer: Matty.

Q: Have you showed in the Parents Western Pleasure before?

Jennifer: In 2005 on his full brother.

Q: How did you do then?

Jennifer: I got second, so this is my first win.

Q: How does it feel?

Jennifer: Good. It feels good. It’s a good way to end the horse show.

Q: Did your daughter give you any advice out there?

Jennifer: She told me good luck.

Q: Will you be coming back in the fall to show at the World Show?

Jennifer: I am.

Q: Whom would you like to thank?

Jennifer: Chad and Carley.
